The Azkoyen Group, which has been associated with the
catering trade since the 1960s with machinery specifically
designed for catering establishments, has increased its
presence on the market since the first half of 1996, with
the sale of a new product: high quality coffee, which
it buys raw from the source and roasts in four establishments
in Madrid and Pamplona. During this financial year, in
Spain the Group will sell more than one million kilograms
of coffee exclusively in the catering trade, according
to estimates from its management team.
Currently, the Azkoyen Group makes and sells trays
for displaying and preserving food, espresso coffee
makers, coffee grinders, glass washers and dishwashers,
ice machines, cash registers, etc. In Spain, there are
around 220,000 catering establishments, and Azkoyen's
share, only taking into account the machinery specific
to the sector, is more than 60%.
The Azkoyen Group entered the coffee market in the
second quarter of 1996, selling its own brand (Azkoyen)
through its subsidiary for the domestic market, Azkoyen
Comercial, which has 30 branches in the various Spanish
regions. In June, the Group acquired the goodwill and
brands (Costa Fría, Mocay and Santos González)
of "Cafés Costa Fría", established
in Navarre, Guipúzcoa and Vizcaya, which meant
an increase of 1,500 new customers working in the catering
sector in those areas.
In order to further strengthen its links with the catering
sector, to which is guarantees the highest level of
quality and product service, the Azkoyen Group has a
35% share in the new company "Cafés Plaza
del Castillo", the owner of a roasting plant in
Pamplona. With this increased presence in the catering
sector, the Azkoyen Group has offered its first product
for direct consumption, while also carrying out the
preventive maintenance of all the machines that it makes
and sells. Around one hundred technicians look after
the maintenance of all its models.
